Welcome!

Welcome to Tatonka, a Seattle Mariners weblog. We are named after former Mets and Giants slugger Kevin Mitchell, who after averaging 32 homers a year for the previous 4 seasons, managed to hit exactly 9 in his one year in a M's uniform. It was pretty typical of what happened to most players who became Mariners during that period.

If you've only followed the Mariners since 95 or thereabouts you may not appreciate just how bad the team was in the eighties and early nineties. Mitchell's one year with the club was the nadir. The M's went 64-98 and fired manager Bill Blummer. His replacement? Lou Piniella.

We'll have a variety of posters offering commentary on all things Mariner. We'll try and do game posts for each and every M's game, but the operative word is try. We hope you enjoy it!
